Trump Claims that, Similar to the Venezuela Arrangement, the US Could Remain in Iran and Retain its Oil

On Sunday, President Donald Trump made the suggestion that the US could remain in Iran and “keep the oil,” drawing a comparison to the US’s attempt to seize control of a quarter of Venezuela’s enormous oil reserves. While in Ireland for meetings and a round of golf, he reaffirmed his expectation that the Iran war would finish this year, perhaps shortly after the November midterm elections in the United States.

Trump said that after the Iran War ended, petrol prices would “drop like a rock” when speaking at the Irish Open golf competition. Oil markets have been rocked by unrest in the Middle East, and traders anticipate price increases on Monday following an attack on a Saudi oil pipeline.

Iran is “asking constantly” for peace negotiations, according to Trump, who added that he would only make the “proper deal and wouldn’t do one that was “no good.” Tehran has previously denied this claim.
However, the president also offered the alternative of continuing to interact with Iran. He compared it to the August announcement of the US accord in Venezuela. Trump stated that the U.S. revenue from Venezuela had “paid for the war many times” and that “we’ll ultimately get out (of Iran), unless we decide to stay and keep the oil like Venezuela.
