The Environmental Crimes Section of the Economic Crimes Department at the General Department of Criminal Investigation (CID) at Dubai Police detained 17 tankers and arrested 18 suspects in the first half of 2026 for unlawfully disposing of hazardous materials, such as petrochemical waste and sewage, outside of approved locations throughout the emirate.
Authorities discovered violations of the rules and regulations controlling the disposal of hazardous chemicals, which led to the identification of the suspects. Authorities seized all 17 tankers after the investigation, and the suspects faced appropriate legal action. Dubai Police emphasised that hazardous materials including sewage and petrochemical waste must only be disposed of at specified sites and in compliance with established protocols.
According to Dubai Police, addressing environmental infractions requires close field cooperation and information exchange with relevant agencies to promptly identify violations and take appropriate action. The police emphasised that companies and individuals involved in the industry have a need to adhere to authorised rules and disposal protocols.
