The UAE Attorney-General Has Ordered Enquiries into The flydubai Flight Incident

The decision followed flydubai’s claim that an argument occurred on the flight deck during the trip, requiring staff members on board to intervene and secure the aircraft. The investigating team has commenced its work in collaboration with the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and other relevant UAE agencies. The Attorney-General directed that all necessary steps be taken to gather information and evidence, establish the facts, and determine the circumstances and motives surrounding the incident, as well as confirm whether it was linked to any terrorist activity or purpose, or involved prior planning or direction.

Al Shamsi emphasised that investigations are underway and urged the public to desist from speculating or spreading unverified information until the appropriate authorities have completed their efforts to gather and verify the facts. He also advocated for not drawing any conclusions until the investigations were completed and for relying on facts and statements made by official authorities.

The UAE legal authorities have jurisdiction to investigate the occurrence under current rules because the aircraft is registered in the UAE and flies the UAE flag. As a result, UAE law applies to crimes committed on board an aeroplane, even if they occur outside the country’s borders.
