GCC Obtains 100% Coverage of Basic Health care for Youth and Adolescents

According to data released by the Statistical Center for the Cooperation Council for the Arab Countries of the Gulf (GCC-STAT), Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries now have 100% coverage of basic health services for adolescents and young people, exceeding the global rate of 68%.

Estimates suggest the number of adolescents and young people aged 10 to 24 in GCC countries would reach 12.8 million by 2025, accounting for 20% of the region’s total population. The GCC countries also achieved 100% compliance with basic national legislation governing adolescent and youth health, compared to a global figure of 84%. This illustrates the GCC countries’ commitment to adolescent and juvenile health in two main areas: basic healthcare services and the development of national rules to protect their health and increase access to care.

Every year on September 30th, GCC countries commemorate Gulf Adolescent and Youth Health Day to emphasise the need of investing in young people’s health, enhancing preventative care and health awareness, and establishing services adapted to their needs.
