According to US President Donald Trump, there is still a “substantial” prospect of negotiations to settle the crisis, therefore he will decide within the next two weeks whether to join Israel’s strikes on Iran.
After days of tense speculation over whether or not he would command US military action against Tehran, Trump’s decision to put the situation on hold may create room for more negotiations. Following what she described as “a lot of speculation” over whether the US will be “directly involved” in the fight, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt gave out a response from Trump.
On a number of other difficult issues, such as the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Trump has previously set two-week deadlines that were later delayed; nonetheless, Leavitt claimed he was delaying a decision.
“If there’s an opening for diplomacy the US president is always going to grab it, but he’s not afraid to use strength as well,” added Leavitt.Leavitt reaffirmed the urgency at the same time, warning reporters that Iran could manufacture a nuclear bomb in just a “couple of weeks.”
Iran possesses all the necessary components to develop a nuclear bomb. The supreme leader’s decision is all that is required, and the construction of that weapon would be finished in a few weeks,” she stated.
