A female European visitor who stole a designer handbag valued at Dh7,000 from a high-end retail establishment in a Dubai mall was given a one-month prison term. After her sentence term, she will be deported.
Court documents state that the current incident was reported when a watchful store employee discovered the purse had vanished not long after a group of five people—four women and one man—came into the store pretending to be customers.
The store worker claimed that the gang started a conversation with him by enquiring about product pricing. After they departed, the staff member became suspicious and looked over the in-store security tape, which revealed the theft in great detail.
While the rest of the party distracted the personnel, one of the ladies was seen on camera stealthily snatching the expensive purse. The theft’s quick execution and well-planned diversion suggested that it was a purposeful shoplifting incident.
As soon as they received the information, Dubai Police began an investigation. Dubai Police’s criminal investigation squad looked over the video, located the culprit, and took her into custody. During questioning, the woman confessed to stealing the purse when she was in the mall with her siblings.
She was transported to the Misdemeanour Court, where she was convicted of stealing and given a one-month jail term before being deported.
