According to media sources and the local governor, a lion that escaped from a theme park close to the Turkey resort of Antalya was shot dead on Sunday after assaulting a man. According to a statement from the local governor, the lion, reportedly named Zeus, broke out of its cage at the Land of Lions animal theme park in Manavgat, approximately 60 kilometres west of Antalya, early in the morning.
The lion then attacked Suleiman Kir, an agricultural labourer, who was dozing off in a pistachio field with his spouse, according to the BirGun daily. Then Kir wrestled with the lion before it fled. He was transferred to a neighbouring hospital for treatment after suffering minor injuries. Iattempted to get up when the prayer call came, but I was unable to do so since we were wrapped in blankets to keep mosquitoes away,” he told the publication.
My left foot was suddenly touched, and when I finally got up, I noticed it was something enormous. At first, I thought it was a dog. There was nobody around when we phoned for assistance. The lion was biting my neck and calf when I caught him by the neck and started to squeeze, which caused him to retreat. The security officers arrived then,” he claimed.
