The US Removes Some Personnel From a Base That was Targeted by Iran

Iran warned the United States on Wednesday that it is fully prepared to respond to any military action, as Washington appeared to withdraw some personnel from a US military base previously targeted by Tehran. The warning comes amid rising tensions involving Iran, the US, and Israel.

The head of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said the country is ready to respond decisively to any aggression by Israel or the United States. The comments follow recent remarks by US President Donald Trump, who warned Tehran it could face consequences over its handling of ongoing protests.

According to rights groups, at least 3,428 people have been killed during the crackdown, which they say is taking place under the cover of an internet blackout that has lasted more than five days. Monitoring group NetBlocks said on Wednesday that the blackout had reached 132 hours, making it one of the longest disruptions in recent years.

Iran’s judiciary has signalled a hardline response. Judiciary chief Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei said fast-track trials would be held for those arrested during the protests, raising concerns among human rights groups that capital punishment could be widely used. Speaking during a visit to a Tehran prison, Ejei said authorities must act quickly in cases involving serious violence, according to state television.
