Former Dubai winners Stan Wawrinka and Stefanos Tsitsipas participated in an Iftar event in Dubai, embracing local customs and the spirit of Ramadan, away from the fierce rivalry at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships.
The two players and Tsitsipas’ parents attended a special dinner at TH8 Palm Dubai Beach Resort, which was hosted by Salah Tahlak, the Tournament Director and Deputy Managing Director at Dubai Duty Free.
Wawrinka emphasized the value of sharing customs outside of the tennis court in her reflections on the event. It’s truly special to be here tonight,” the three-time Grand Slam champion and 2016 Dubai champion remarked.
Being asked to share this occasion, especially with family, is greatly appreciated. One of the lovely things about tennis is that it’s about exchanging cultures. We have the opportunity to encounter customs like these while traveling the world and meeting individuals from various origins. Echoing the sentiment, Tsitsipas emphasized that cultural exploration has become one of his career’s greatest rewards. The Greek star, who wore traditional Emirati clothing for the evening, said it was a familiar and personal gesture, having done it at a players’ gathering in Dubai before.
