Sharjah Will Open 17 New Mosques by the End of Ramadan

Plans to open 17 new mosques across Sharjah and its suburbs have been completed, according to the Sharjah Department of Islamic Affairs. This program, set to run from early 2026 through the conclusion of Ramadan, demonstrates the department’s continued dedication to maintaining and improving mosques while creating a spiritually stimulating environment.

Four mosques will be in the Central Region, one in the Eastern Region, eleven in Sharjah City, and one in Al Hamriya. With a combined capacity of almost 9,000 worshippers—men and women alike these extensions are intended to increase accessibility for locals, enabling them to quietly and comfortably carry out their religious rituals.

The completion of this plan, according to Dr. Issa Saif Bin Hanzal, a member of the Executive Council and the head of the department, reflects the vision of His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, a member of the Supreme Council and the ruler of Sharjah, who prioritized mosque maintenance and emphasized the mosques’ vital role in community life.

He added that the mosques’ varied sizes and architectural styles capture the spirit of traditional Islamic architecture while taking into account the distinctive urban features of each location.
