A Guy in the UAE Has Been Ordered to pay Dhs30,000 for Insulting a Woman and Destroying her Car

The Al Ain Civil, Commercial, and Administrative Cases Court has ordered a man to pay Dhs30,000 in compensation to a woman after verbally abusing her and causing severe damage to her vehicle, rendering it inoperable owing to flying pebbles and sand.

She claimed that the defendant verbally insulted her in her presence, even though there were no witnesses to the occurrence. He also severely damaged her automobile, rendering it unusable. The defendant had already been convicted in a comparable criminal case. The plaintiff used the emotional and material loss she suffered as the basis for her legal claim.

The court found that the defendant’s liability had been clearly proved. The complainant reported severe losses when the defendant’s flying gravel and sand damaged her vehicle. Taking into account the facts of the case and exercising its discretion, the court determined that the material damages to her vehicle were worth Dhs10,000 as fair compensation for the losses experienced.

Additionally, the court examined the complainant’s moral harm. It found that the defendant’s actions, particularly the verbal abuse, caused psychological distress to the complainant. The demonstrated causal link between the defendant’s fault and the consequent harm imposed a legal obligation on him to provide compensation. Given the circumstances and applying its ruling, the court granted her Dhs20,000 in compensation for her moral distress.
