Under a full moon on Saturday, Latin pop sensation Shakira began her free mega-concert on Rio’s famous Copacabana beach. As she took the stage more over an hour late, drones formed the image of a she-wolf, as she is known.
The 49-year-old Colombian superstar’s free outdoor concert, held on a huge platform outside the storied Copacabana Hotel, was expected to draw almost 2 million spectators. The biggest pop stars have visited this beach in recent years; this year, Lady Gaga sang her greatest hits to 2.1 million admirers, while Madonna posed for 1.6 million in 2024.
Shakira creates genuine art and does what she wants out of love; she doesn’t have to fit into any mould. Wearing an overcoat made of scraps that represented Latin American flags, 26-year-old designer Joao Pedro Yellin told the reporters, “I’m very inspired by her, she’s a Latin woman at the top.” Superfan Graciele Vaz travelled four hours from the resort town of Paraty to watch the event, and on Friday night, she slept on the beach.
