A Court in Al Ain Fined a Man Dhs15,000 for Harassing a Woman Via WhatsApp

The Al Ain Court of First Instance ordered a man to pay a woman Dhs15,000 in compensation for the moral harm she suffered after he insulted her by transmitting audio recordings on WhatsApp. The case stemmed from the woman’s lawsuit against the defendant, in which she sought that he pay her Dhs50,000 in compensation for the losses she incurred and fees and expenditures.

In support of her claim, the plaintiff alleged that the defendant insulted her through audio recordings provided over WhatsApp, and that the defendant was convicted of this occurrence in a criminal judgement.

She filed this case because she suffered financial and moral harms, according to the plaintiff, who also produced copies of the criminal judgement and a certificate from the Public Prosecution saying that it was not appealed.

The disagreement was presented before the appropriate office, where both the plaintiff and defendant were present. The defendant asserted that due to conflicts between the two parties, he acted to reconcile them and that his action posed no threat to the plaintiff.

The defendant then sent a memo explaining the facts of the disagreement and the communication that was taking place between the two sides. As a result, the supervising judge chose to submit the case to this court.
