The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) has reiterated the ban on cryptocurrency mining on agricultural land as part of its continuous efforts to increase awareness among the emirate’s agricultural stakeholders and guarantee the continuation of services and support offered to farms. Such operations are prohibited on farmlands and are not included in the authority’s list of approved economic uses.
This clarification follows the discovery that several farms were misusing their land for cryptocurrency mining, which contradicts the primary purpose of farm use, as stipulated by relevant laws, which is strictly limited to livestock and agricultural operations. Consequently, ADAFSA will stop providing non-compliant farmers with any services or assistance.
Due to the detrimental effects of bitcoin mining on agricultural sustainability and biosecurity, the government has confirmed that both farm owners and tenants who are caught participating in such activities would face violations. To discourage such infractions in the future, ADAFSA has implemented severe administrative sanctions, including a fine of AED 100,000, which is doubled for repeat offenders.
