According to authorities, a murder investigation has been opened into the Tuesday shooting death of three individuals in the Sweden city of Uppsala. According to the news agency T, police are looking for a single suspected criminal. Earlier, police said that emergency personnel had hurried to the location after receiving complaints from members of the public who claimed to have heard gunshots in the city centre.
Following a shooting, three persons have been officially declared deceased. Investigators said in a statement that they are looking into the event as a murder. Witnesses said to broadcaster SVT that they heard five gunshots and saw nearby residents rushing for shelter.
In February, a 35-year-old jobless loner opened fire on pupils and teachers at an adult education facility in the Swedish city of Orebro, killing ten people in the nation’s bloodiest mass shooting to date. For almost ten years, Sweden has experienced a surge in gang-related violence, which has included a gun violence pandemic.
The right-wing minority administration in the Nordic nation was elected in 2022 with the pledge to address gang-related violence. In addition to tightening legislation and granting police greater authority, it declared it will work to tighten firearms regulations following the Orebro shooting.
