
Miguel Uribe, a prospective presidential candidate from Colombia, was wounded during a campaign event in Bogota on Saturday and was in critical condition in the hospital, according to his wife and party and government officials.
President Gustavo Petro ordered an inquiry into the identity of the person who ordered the attack after “a minor under 15 years of age was arrested carrying a Glock pistol-type firearm (9mm),” according to a statement from the Colombian Attorney General’s Office.
During a 2026 presidential campaign event in a public park in the capital’s Fontibon area on Saturday, the 39-year-old senator, who belongs to the opposition conservative Democratic Centre party, was shot, the party said in a statement.

In a statement, the party said that “armed subjects shot him from behind” and characterised the assault as severe, although it withheld more information regarding Uribe’s health. Following the incident, social media videos showed a guy who was identified as Uribe receiving medical attention. His skull seemed to be gushing blood. On X, Maria Claudia Tarazona, Uribe’s wife, tweeted that her husband was “fighting for his life.
