An Al Ain resident’s initial joy over a new iPhone 17 soon gave way to amazement and regret when he learned that the sealed package he had bought contained nothing but stones. Speaking to Gulf Today, Ahmed Saeed described the strange event that happened on Thursday night. Saeed claimed to have purchased the coveted iPhone 17 at a mobile phone store in Al Ain. The box resembled an actual Apple container, sealed and just like the original. There was no sign of anything wrong, not even its weight.
Later that night, Saeed unwrapped the box in front of his family at home, surprising them. He was shocked to see a bunch of tiny stones carefully placed inside, rather than a fancy new smartphone. I couldn’t believe it. It was difficult to imagine this,” he said, adding that the box was sealed and felt real.
Saeed went back to the store right away, and the salesman was just as surprised by what he saw. Following some conversation, the salesperson acknowledged that the item had not been purchased from a certified distributor or an official Apple store. But he maintained that he had been unaware of the trick.
