An event was held today in Dubai by the British American Tobacco Middle East DMCC to highlight the contribution of science and innovation to the advancement of tobacco harm reduction (THR). A major step in creating a framework for product quality, safety, and production was taken when the event took place in conjunction with the publication of the UAE’s first national standards for tobacco-free oral nicotine pouches.
During the occasion, BAT Middle East North Africa (MENA) showcased its continuous progress in creating a better future by pledging to offer a variety of lower-risk* cigarette options to adult smokers who would otherwise continue to smoke.
Additionally, BAT unveiled Omni, a dynamic, evidence-based resource demonstrating how innovation and science propel the movement towards a smokeless world. BAT’s own study into its innovation, hundreds of independent scientific studies and research, and real-world instances of Tobacco Harm Reduction (THR) in action are all compiled in Omni, a resource for scientists, public health authorities, regulators, policy makers, and investors.
The program featured real-world examples, such as Sweden’s achieving the lowest smoking incidence in the EU. Sweden’s success has been largely attributed to its willingness to refrain from overly regulating the distribution of smokeless cigarette substitutes that meet the nicotine needs of adult smokers.
