On Friday, US President Donald Trump filed a lawsuit for at least $10 billion against media tycoon Rupert Murdoch and The Wall Street Journal for publishing a shocking story about his acquaintance with Jeffrey Epstein, the notorious suspected sex trafficker of minor girls. The 79-year-old Republican retaliated in a defamation action, which was filed in a Miami federal court, against a controversy that threatened to seriously harm his political standing.
Trump said on Truth Social late Friday, “We have just filed a POWERHOUSE Lawsuit against everyone involved in publishing the false, malicious, defamatory, FAKE NEWS ‘article’ in the useless ‘rag’ that is, The Wall Street Journal.
According to a Thursday Journal story, the then-real estate tycoon wrote Epstein a provocative birthday card in 2003 that included a picture of a nude lady and made reference to a perceived “secret.
The complaint asserts that there is no such letter and that the paper’s purpose was to defame Trump with a narrative that has been seen by hundreds of millions of people. It also names two reporters, the Dow Jones firm, and Murdoch’s parent company News Corp. as defendants.
Additionally, it stated that President Trump’s financial and reputational losses will only worsen due to the timing of the Defendants’ publication, which demonstrates their malevolent purpose behind it. The Journal’s longstanding publisher, Dow Jones, said Friday that it is sticking by the report in response to Trump’s libel action.
