Due to The risk of Fire, BMW is Recalling Hundreds of Thousands of Vehicles Globally

Due to a possible fire hazard, German automaker BMW is recalling hundreds of thousands of vehicles globally, a company spokesperson announced Wednesday. According to the spokesperson, a “mid-six-figure number” of automobiles would be impacted by a worldwide recall, and the business will write to owners to repair any potentially defective starters.

According to BMW, 16 models with starter motors manufactured between July 2020 and July 2022 may be affected due to excessive wear of the electromagnet over time. BMW AG advises against leaving a car unattended with the engine running after starting it, particularly after remote engine start, the automaker warned in a statement.

Following consumer complaints and vehicle examinations, it was determined that the engine starter of the identified vehicles could become defective,” according to the statement.Furthermore, it is impossible to rule out a magnetic short circuit. Consequently, the starter may overheat locally. In the worst situation, this could result in a car fire while you’re driving,” it continued. The recall was initially reported by the industry newsletter kfz-betrieb.
