Several significant milestones have been achieved in Emirates’ efforts to make travel more accessible for everyone during Autism Awareness Month. A year after Emirates’ first successful “travel rehearsal,” the initiative is now being implemented in 17 locations, enabling autistic youngsters to rehearse their airport journey to prepare for actual flights.
With over 30,000 ground personnel and cabin crew members now trained to assist passengers with autism, Emirates has also became the first airline in the world to be certified as an autism-friendly airline. Through a collection of films, TV series, and podcasts regarding neurodiversity on its in-flight entertainment system, Ice, Emirates raised awareness of autism among millions of travellers worldwide throughout the month of April.
“As part of our operational strategy, Emirates has been driving and facilitating good progress in accessible travel,” stated Adel Al Redha, Deputy President and COO of Emirates. Our goal of promoting inclusivity in travel is still ongoing. We received recognition as a Certified Autism Centre at the start of 2024. With 30,000 frontline employees and cabin crew educated to serve our passengers with autism, we are now the first airline in the world to receive autism certification. I am happy to report that we have upskilled our workers.
To break down barriers and make travel accessible to everyone, we are now launching our Travel Rehearsal program in cities worldwide. This is a component of our professional and societal obligations.
