During Summit Talks with Prime Minister Modi, Russian President Putin Promised India Uninterrupted Oil

As New Delhi is under intense pressure from the United States to cease purchasing oil from Moscow, Russian President Vladimir Putin declared on Friday that he was prepared to continue uninterrupted shipments” of gasoline to India.

Citing New Delhi’s ongoing purchases of Russian oil, which Washington claims helps finance the war in Ukraine, US President Donald Trump imposed punitive 50% tariffs on the majority of Indian goods in August.

At a conference in New Delhi that is primarily focused on energy, defense, and trade discussions, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed Putin for his “unwavering commitment towards India.

Russia is an honest supplier of oil, gas, coal, and every other commodity that is required for the advancement of India’s energy,” Putin told Modi following the meeting. He said, “We are ready to continue uninterrupted shipments of fuel for the fast-growing Indian economy,” as reported by an official interpreter.

Vladimir Putin and Rossiya Segodnya media group editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan participate in a ceremony in New Delhi to introduce the RT India news channel. Reuters reported that Modi stated, “Energy security has been an essential and important pillar of the India-Russia partnership,” and mentioned nuclear power, though he did not specifically mention oil.
