The foreign ministers of several Arab, Asian, and Gulf Cooperation Council countries gathered in Riyadh on Wednesday, March 18, to discuss the escalating Iranian aggression in the area. The ministers examined Iran’s strikes on GCC countries, Jordan, Azerbaijan, and Turkey, denouncing missiles and drones launched against residential areas and civilian infrastructure such as oil installations, desalination plants, airports, residential facilities, and diplomatic missions.
They stated that the attacks could not be justified under any circumstances and emphasized the freedom of nations to protect themselves. They also urged Iran to immediately halt the attacks and follow international law. The ministers advocated for de-escalation and diplomatic solutions.
Furthermore, Iran has been urged not just to halt its actions and refrain from threatening neighboring nations, but also to stop sponsoring, financing, and arming associated militias in Arab states. They also urged Iran to avoid acts that may impede the Strait of Hormuz or jeopardize maritime security in Bab Al Mandeb.
The ministers underlined their support for Lebanon’s full sovereignty and security. They also expressed their support for the Lebanese government’s decision to confine weaponry to the state. The foreign ministers condemned Israel’s actions against Lebanon and its expansionist intentions in the region.
The ministers concluded their statement by saying they will continue to meet and coordinate to assess emerging situations and take the necessary steps to preserve their security and end Iranian aggression.
