Greta, a Climate Activist, Boards an Aid Ship Headed to Gaza to Lift Israel’s Siege

Greta Thunberg, a climate advocate, and eleven other activists will board a ship on Sunday afternoon to go for Gaza with the goal of “breaking Israel’s siege” on the ravaged region, according to organisers. The activist organisation Freedom Flotilla Coalition’s sailing vessel, Madleen, is scheduled to sail from the southern Italian port of Catania, Sicily.

In an attempt to raise “international awareness” of the current humanitarian situation and bring in some relief, the activists stated at a news conference on Sunday that they would attempt to reach the Gaza Strip’s coastline before departing.

Thunberg broke down in tears during her address and stated, “We are doing this because, no matter what odds we are against, we have to keep trying.” “Because we lose our humanity the instant we give up. Furthermore, she stated, “The world’s silence in the face of the live-streamed genocide is far more dangerous than this mission, no matter how risky it is.”

Israel, which was established in the wake of the Holocaust, has vehemently denied accusations of genocide against it, calling them “blood libel” and antisemitic. After over three months, Israel loosened its siege on Gaza in mid-May, allowing a small quantity of humanitarian supplies to enter the region.
