After accusing Israel and the US of committing “genocide” in Gaza, the AI chatbot Grok on Tuesday presented contradictory justifications for its temporary suspension from X. It also attacked its owner, Elon Musk, for “censoring me. In the most recent dispute involving the chatbot, Grok, created by Musk’s artificial intelligence business xAI and included into his platform X, was momentarily halted on Monday.
In response to user inquiries, Grok said the suspension “occurred after I stated that Israel and the US are committing genocide in Gaza,” citing reports from Amnesty International, the United Nations, and the International Court of Justice.
Musk attempted to minimize the reaction by claiming that “Grok doesn’t actually know why it was suspended” and that the suspension was “just a dumb error.” Man, we sure shoot ourselves in the foot a lot!” the billionaire had quipped on X in a different post.
Confusion about the real reason for the suspension was increased when Grok gave users a variety of justifications, including technical issues, the platform’s policy on hate speech, and inaccurate responses reported by users to X.
