Following Israel’s far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir’s Sunday visit to the holy site, Saudi Arabia denounced “provocative” actions by Israeli authorities inside the Al Aqsa Mosque compound. Such actions fuel conflict in the area,” the kingdom’s Foreign Ministry stated.
Israel has no control over Al Aqsa Mosque, the Jordanian Foreign Ministry emphasized, calling the conduct a “flagrant violation of international law and international humanitarian law, an unacceptable provocation, and a condemned scalation.
The property is run by a Jordanian religious organization, and Jews are permitted to visit but are not permitted to pray there under a tenuous status quo agreement with Muslim authorities that dates back several decades.
According to the Waqf, the organization in charge of managing the compound, Mr. Ben-Gvir was one of 1,250 people who climbed the site and reportedly yelled, danced, and prayed. Israel’s policy of maintaining the status quo on the Temple Mount has not changed and will remain unchanged,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated in reaction to the visit.
As attempts to reach a ceasefire agreement fail and the country’s far-right administration seems to favor ongoing combat to a truce, new ire erupted in Israel when Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad published two recordings of Israeli hostages held in Gaza.
