The Federal Tax Authority (FTA) said that more than 7,200 applications from Emirati citizens were approved last year under the scheme that allows UAE nationals to reclaim Value Added Tax paid on the construction of newly built homes. The total value of VAT refunds issued during the period exceeded Dhs646 million.
Khalid Ali Al Bustani, Director General of the FTA, said the authority remains focused on improving services linked to Emirati families, with particular attention given to the VAT refund programme for UAE nationals building new residences. He noted that the service is continuously upgraded through modern, user-friendly digital systems to make the process easier and more efficient for applicants.
He added that the initiative supports the UAE leadership’s vision of strengthening social stability and advancing national development, especially in terms of housing security for families. This focus aligns with the designation of 2026 as the Year of Family.
Al Bustani said the growing number of beneficiaries reflects increased tax awareness among UAE nationals and highlights the success of the FTA’s efforts to improve and expand its services. He explained that the authority has introduced several measures to simplify and speed up refund procedures for eligible citizens, as part of its wider strategy to support a modern housing environment and improve quality of life and wellbeing.
