Indonesia Looks into 700 More Cases of illness Following the Consumption of free School Meals

Nearly 700 children in Yogyakarta province are the subject of food poisoning cases being investigated by Indonesian authorities this week after they consumed meals made possible by President Prabowo Subianto’s important free school meal program, according to an official.

According to Endah Subekti Kuntariningsih, the district head of Gunungkidul, around 660 students from two schools in central Java reported having food poisoning symptoms. Endah said on Instagram that ten instructors from one of the schools were also impacted. According to her, headmasters of schools that ate from the same kitchen ought to keep an eye on their students.

Ismono, the chairman of the local health service, told reporters that the majority of people who were taken sick had diarrhea, nausea, and dizziness after eating meals that were given on Tuesday. According to him, a hospital and health clinic treated at least 64 patients. Ismono, who goes by one name, stated that the kitchen connected to the cases has been suspended.

Prabowo made a significant election campaign pledge when he launched the school lunch program in January, but as of October 29, data from the non-governmental organization known locally as JPPI revealed that 15,000 children had become unwell. The JPPI has demanded that the scheme be put on hold.
