International NGOs are Working Quickly to Stop the Israeli Order to Shut Down

Over a dozen international humanitarian groups have asked Israel’s Supreme Court to stop an order that would force 37 NGOs to stop working in Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem. They warned that this would have “catastrophic” effects for civilians.

On December 30, 2025, Doctors Without Borders (MSF), Oxfam, the Norwegian Refugee Council, and CARE were told that their Israeli registrations had run out and that they had 60 days to renew them by sending in lists of their Palestinian workers.

Seventeen groups, including some of the NGOs affected by the ban, filed the appeal with Israel’s highest court. They want an urgent temporary order to stop the closures until the whole court can evaluate the case. On Tuesday, Hamas called for sanctions on Israel and welcomed the fact that around 20 countries condemned new Israeli measures aimed at strengthening control over the occupied West Bank.

This month, Israel’s far-right ministers have embraced a number of ideas, such as starting the process of registering land in the West Bank as “state property” and letting Israelis buy land there directly.
