The International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the United Nations’ specialized agency for digital technologies, presented the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) with the “Innovate for Impact” award in the Smart Home/Cities category at the Artificial Intelligence for the Public Good Summit.
Through the project “AI-Enhanced Detection and Prediction at Saruq Al Hadid Archaeological Site,” the Authority’s innovative efforts to use artificial intelligence to cultural heritage preservation are recognized with this prize. The project, which was created in partnership with Khalifa University of Science and Technology, uses remote sensing, artificial intelligence (AI), and geophysical survey technologies, including magnetic surveys, ground penetrating radar (GPR), and high-precision mapping, to investigate one of the most important Iron Age sites in the area.
In addition to protecting the past, we also bolster Dubai’s cultural voice globally by utilizing AI and other non-invasive techniques. “This recognition is a reflection of our belief that heritage and innovation are not mutually exclusive, but rather complementary forces,” stated Muna Al Gurg, CEO of Dubai Culture’s Museums and legacy Sector. We can take the lead in redefining cultural heritage preservation both locally and internationally thanks to projects like Saruq Al-Hadid.
