British television personality Jeremy Clarkson, best known as the former host of Top Gear, has hinted at leaving the UK, describing the country as “a nation doomed to collapse.” Writing in The Sunday Times, Clarkson, 65, voiced frustration over what he sees as Britain’s bleak outlook—marked by heavy taxation, rising crime, economic stagnation, and poor policing. He argued that these issues, alongside a stagnant housing market, are pushing him to consider emigration.
The presenter also revealed that 2025 has been one of the most difficult years of his life. Heatwaves and drought badly hit his Cotswolds farm, which has now been forced to close for two months following a bovine tuberculosis outbreak among his cattle. “It’s the worst year ever for me,” he admitted.
Amid personal and national challenges, Clarkson said he is weighing the idea of moving abroad, with Dubai, parts of Europe, and Australia all under consideration. He pointed to Dubai’s appeal in particular, citing its zero income tax, cheap fuel—around 50 pence per gallon—and what he described as an efficient police force paired with year-round sunshine.
It’s easy to convince yourself that Britain has become a hopeless case, heading quickly toward collapse,” Clarkson wrote, adding that the prospect of life abroad is becoming increasingly attractive compared to the turmoil at home.
