With the signature of the project’s Investment Agreement, Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC—Masdar, the clean energy giant of the United Arab Emirates—and its partners have accomplished a major milestone in the construction of their 1GW windfarm in Kazakhstan.
Nurlan Zhakupov, Chairman of the Board of Samruk-Kazyna, Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, Chief Executive Officer of Masdar, and Nurlan Baibazarov, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, observed the signing of the agreement on the sidelines of COP29 in Baku.
Almassadam Satkaliyev, Kazakhstan’s Energy Minister, and Abdulla Zayed, Masdar’s Director of Business and Project Development, inked the deal. Masdar is the principal developer of the 1GW wind project, which is being co-developed by W Solar, Qazaq Green Power (a company of the Samruk-Kazyna Group), and the Kazakhstan Investment Development Fund.
It is expected to be one of the biggest wind farms in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) region and marks a substantial investment in the nation’s potential as a major clean energy generator.
Construction of the wind farm is anticipated to start in Q1 2026. When finished, it will supply electricity to about 300,000 houses in southern Kazakhstan, preventing 2 million tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.
