A Lady who Insulted a Guy on WhatsApp is Fined Dhs 10,000 by an Abu Dhabi Court

A lady was ordered by the Abu Dhabi Family, Civil and Administrative Cases Court to compensate a man she verbally assaulted and insulted on WhatsApp with Dhs 10,000. The case file states that the plaintiff sued the defendant and asked that she be forced to pay Dhs51,000 in expenses, fees, legal interest, and moral damages.

After the defendant attacked and defamed him on WhatsApp, the plaintiff filed a complaint, alleging that she had caused him harm. This matter was the subject of a prior case in which the criminal court imposed a Dhs1,000 fine.

The court clarified that anyone who harms another is required to provide compensation under Articles 282, 292, and 293(1) of the Civil Transactions Law in response to the claim for payment of moral and ethical damages.

Anything that compromises honor, feelings, or dignity is considered moral damage, including psychological suffering. The court concluded that the complainant’s reputation had been harmed by the defendant’s acts, which had also impacted his mental health and undermined his humanity and dignity.
