Milan Fashion Week is a Showcase for Giorgio Armani’s Creations

Using textures, geometric patterns, and his trademark loose shapes, Giorgio Armani’s menswear collection for the next warm weather season captured the geography of summer. Due to an unexplained illness, the 90-year-old designer could not attend Monday’s Milan Fashion Week catwalk preview show. However, his fashion business claimed he continued contributing to the designs and watching the event livestream. The designer was missing for the first time in his career. Leo Dell’Orco, Armani’s long-time head of menswear who has collaborated with Armani for 45 of the Giorgio Armani design house’s 50 years, took the closing bow in his place.

After the presentation, Dell’Orco told reporters, “He liked it.” He also mentioned that Armani was particularly pleased to see that he had sent male-female couples down the catwalk in identical outfits, highlighting their flexibility.

In this traditional Armani collection, a seemingly limitless selection of gently built jackets, ranging from shirt-weight leather coats to a double-breasted casual jacket with shawl collars, was matched with spacious wide pleated pants. For styles that go from work to play, deep-V-front vests are used in place of shirts.

The collection achieved harmony by the blending of textures, including flowing silk, soft suede, woven leather, and raw linen. Ensembles may have seemed monochrome from a distance, but upon closer inspection, a tasteful mixing of materials and geometric patterns that seemed out of sync gave the appearances depth.
