To commemorate its 25th anniversary on Monday, the BET Awards will include a number of well-known celebrities, including Kendrick Lamar, Mariah Carey, and Jamie Foxx. With ten nominations, including album of the year for his highly regarded project “GNX,” Lamar is in the lead. His well-known diss song “Not Like Us,” which sprang from the Drake dispute, was nominated for both viewer’s choice and video of the year.
The awards will be broadcast live from the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles on June 9, at 8 p.m. Eastern. The rap superstar caused a stir when he won song and record of the year for “Not Like Us” at the Grammy Awards.
As the first solo hip-hop artist to take centre stage, he followed up with an innovative halftime act. He is now travelling with SZA on the Grand National Tour. The Ultimate Icon Award will go to Carey, Foxx, Snoop Dogg, and Kirk Franklin. They were chosen because of their activism and influence on the community, in addition to their influence on entertainment.
With six nominations each, Doechii, Drake, Future, and GloRilla shared second place. SZA and The Weeknd received four nods, while Metro Boomin received five. Rapper GloRilla, singer Teyana Taylor, and legendary rapper Lil Wayne will all perform on the BET Awards stage. Rapper Playboi Carti and vocalist Leon Thomas are also on the lineup. As the presenter, Kevin Hart is anticipated to provide humour.
