The Egyptian Board of Children’s Books (EBBY) is the honoured guest of the UAE Board on Books for Young People (UAEBBY) for the 16th Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival (SCRF), which will take place at Expo Centre Sharjah till the evening of May 4.
By hosting the EBBY, the UAEBBY further solidifies its position in fostering cross-cultural communication. This hosting represents a new turning point in Arab collaboration in the field of children’s literature.
Through a joint pavilion with UAEBBY, the Egyptian Board of Children’s Books, an active chapter of the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY), showcases its initiatives to promote reading and expand Egypt’s children’s book sector. Additionally, the delegation will organise events and workshops that introduce young readers to renowned authors and illustrators.
Among the prominent individuals in the EBBY delegation are Dr. Ibrahim Shalabi, a young adult novelist who tackles issues of identity and adolescence; Mohamed Wahba, an illustrator renowned for his manga-inspired styles and expansive portrayals of Egyptian life; and Haitham Shukri, a storyteller who combines narrative and performance. The board’s chair, Dr. Nadia El Khouly, a professor at Cairo University, is a well-known supporter of literature as a tool for empowering young people.
