The EU is Happy About the US-Iran Peace

On Wednesday, EU leaders were happy about the two-week ceasefire that the US and Iran agreed to. I am happy that the US and Iran agreed to a two-week ceasefire last night. “It brings much needed de-escalation,” said Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, on the social media site X. She also noted that it was important for negotiations to continue in order to find a lasting solution.

Costa, the President of the European Council, said on X that he told “all parties to uphold its terms in order to achieve sustainable peace in the region. Kaja Kallas, the EU’s senior diplomat, stated that the ceasefire arrangement was “a step back from the brink after weeks of escalation. She went on to say, “It gives us a much-needed chance to calm down threats, stop missiles, restart shipping, and make room for diplomacy toward a lasting agreement.

Late on Tuesday, U.S. President Donald Trump said he had agreed to a two-week ceasefire with Iran. This was less than two hours before his ultimatum for Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz or risk devastating attacks on its civilian infrastructure. The announcement late on Tuesday was a significant departure from his earlier warning that “a whole civilization will die tonight” if his demands were not met.
