The UAE’s Second Phase of the Plastic Ban will Start on January 1

The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment has confirmed that the second phase of implementing Ministerial Resolution No. 380 for 2022 will begin on Thursday, January 1, 2026. This resolution stipulates that a new class of consumer plastic products and single-use bags will not be allowed to be imported, manufactured, or traded.

The ministry stated that the resolution marks a significant turning point in the nation’s efforts to create a sustainable future and that it complements the body of laws designed to safeguard natural systems and lessen the negative effects of waste on the environment.

By turning resources into sustainable assets rather than an environmental burden, the second phase’s activation on January 1, 2026, is part of a comprehensive vision to manage waste effectively and consolidate the principles of the circular economy, according to the statement. We are moving away from the bag ban phase, which started in 2024 and prohibited the import, manufacture, or exchange of single-use plastic shopping bags, including biodegradable plastic bags.
