Trump Claims that the Media Cannot Distance Themselves from Musk

Donald Trump has made fun of what he claims are media portrayals of Elon Musk as the true authority in the White House, claiming that efforts to distance himself from the tech tycoon have not succeeded.

The US president says, “They do it all the time,” in quotes from an interview that will appear on Fox News on Tuesday that were made public on Saturday. “We have breaking news: Donald Trump has given Elon Musk control of the presidency,” Trump said, sounding as though he were speaking in the voice of a news anchor. Tonight, President Musk is scheduled to attend a cabinet meeting. There has been much conjecture that Musk’s prominence may ultimately lead to his downfall, and the Republican president is notoriously touchy about being outshone by anyone in his entourage.

Although Musk, who was born in South Africa, is ostensibly only the head of a new “Department of Government Efficiency” (DOGE), he has incredibly extensive authority to find what he claims are wasteful expenditure and employment areas and then swiftly remove them.

The world’s richest man’s actions have prompted criticism from the media, as seen by a Time magazine cover that features Musk seated behind the president’s famous Resolute Desk and a New Yorker cover that features Trump and Musk taking the presidential oath of office together while holding a Bible.
