Dubai International Airport was the busiest airport in the region in terms of total domestic and international flights, according to data from the worldwide aviation data platform OAG. In terms of available seats, it surpassed Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport to become the world’s largest airport.
According to data, Dubai International Airport handled 5.5 million departing seats (11 million scheduled seats) in January, ranking first globally in terms of total seat capacity on both domestic and international flights. This represents a 4% year-over-year increase in airline capacity compared to January 2025. Tokyo Haneda stayed in third place with a total of 4.64 million seats, despite a 1% decline, while Atlanta Airport moved up to second place with 4.9 million seats, a 1% year-over-year rise. With 4.42 million seats, Beijing Baiyun International Airport was rated fourth in the world.
In terms of total flights, the data showed that Dubai International Airport was the busiest airport in the region, with Doha International Airport coming in second with 2.9 million seats. With 2.9 million seats, Jeddah International Airport placed third. The number of seats at Sharjah International Airport increased by 17.5% to 917,000 from 780,000 in 2025. The number of seats at Zayed International Airport increased by 10% to 1.7 million in November, up from 1.55 million the previous year.
