Zelensky and Trump Will Meet in Florida to Discuss a Peace Proposal for Ukraine
As Russian airstrikes increase pressure on Kyiv, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and US President Donald Trump will meet in Florida on Sunday to develop a strategy to end the conflict in Ukraine. However, they will disagree on important matters, including territory.
On Saturday, Russia launched hundreds of missiles and drones into the capital and other areas of war-torn Ukraine, cutting off power and heat in some areas. Zelensky referred to it as Russia’s reaction to the peace initiatives mediated by the United States.
Zelensky has informed reporters that at the meeting at Trump’s Florida home, he would address a number of issues, including the future of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power facility and the contested Donbas region in eastern Ukraine.
Serhiy Kyslytsya, Ukraine’s deputy foreign minister, stated on X that the president of Ukraine and his delegation arrived in Florida late on Saturday. Good night, Florida! Kyslytsya posted a picture of an aircraft with the last name of the US president on the fuselage along with her message.
There are questions about whether Russian President Vladimir Putin would accept the outcome of Sunday’s negotiations because Moscow has consistently demanded that Ukraine cede all of the Donbas, including areas currently under Kyiv’s control. Russian officials have objected to other aspects of the most recent plan.
