Beijing: According to Chinese state media on Wednesday, China’s top diplomat urged Pakistan to assist in “properly” addressing the reopening of the Hormuz Strait and to intensify mediation efforts between Iran and the United States.
According China state news agency Xinhua, Foreign Minister Wang Yi called his Pakistani counterpart Ishaq Dar. On Wednesday night, US President Donald Trump traveled to Beijing to meet with Chinese leader Xi Jinping, whose nation is an important economic and strategic ally of Iran.
According to the state news agency Xinhua, Wang urged Pakistan to “step up mediation efforts, and contribute to properly addressing issues related to opening the Strait of Hormuz.” According to Xinhua, Wang declared, “China will continue to support Pakistan’s mediation efforts and make its own contribution toward this end.
The United States and Iran are discussing a post-conflict peace deal, and Pakistan has emerged as a crucial mediator between them. Tuesday, the Iranian administration rejected the notion of changing its plans, which Trump has called “garbage.”
