Owner of Viral Indian Gen Z Account Alleges Repression and Threats

The founder of a popular social media account aimed at India’s Gen Z has faced allegations of hacking and threats to his family after gaining millions of followers who are dissatisfied with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s regime.

The satirical “Cockroach Janta Party” (CJP) account gained over 22 million Instagram followers in just a few days, indicating growing concern among young users about topics such as unemployment and exam leaks.

The account’s spike in popularity contrasts with Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party’s recent political triumphs in key states, which have strengthened its standing after more than a decade in power nationally.

On social media, federal minister Kiren Rijiju, a top BJP leader, condemned the phenomena, saying he pitied people who sought followers outside the country. In a post on X, Rijiju stated, “Those who are heroes of the anti-India gang cannot be heroes of India.” The statement did not mention the viral CJP. “We have complete faith in Indian democracy and Indian youth.
