South Korea Demands Significant Funding for AI Infrastructure

The head of presidential policy stated on Wednesday that the emergence of a new age in artificial intelligence (AI) necessitates new state infrastructure and urged significant investment to support the nation’s potential growth trajectory in AI.

In the midst of a South Korean stock market boom propelled by record earnings and stock gains by AI-related chipmakers, Kim Yong-beom, presidential chief of staff for policy, made the argument during a talk organized by the Kwanhun Club, a senior journalists’ association, according to Yonhap news agency.”Our response should be different if the current semiconductor and AI supercycle is the start of a structural transformation that will raise South Korea’s potential growth trajectory as well as a reorganization of its industrial structure,” Kim said at the meeting.

He stated that the government “needs to lay the growth foundation through preemptive investment that is aggressive enough to transform South Korea’s industrial map” to support the push into the new AI era.

The policy leader also mentioned the need for enormous quantities of space and electricity as well as a new industrial environment, claiming that regional areas might offer a new industrial landscape with data centers, future electrical networks, and other infrastructure.
