230 prisoners were freed as a consequence of the UAE’s successful mediation of a new captive exchange between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Ukraine, increasing the total number of prisoners exchanged via UAE mediation efforts to 1,788.
Within a month of the previous exchange process, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) thanked the governments of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Ukraine for cooperating with the UAE’s mediation efforts. These initiatives demonstrate the UAE’s resolve to serve as a dependable mediator and encourage diplomatic efforts to end the crisis between the two nations.
The Ministry emphasised that the UAE’s strong relationships and collaborations with both sides have contributed to the success of this latest mediation, which is the seventh since the beginning of the year.
The Ministry also reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to carrying out all programs and efforts meant to resolve the conflict peacefully, emphasising the value of de-escalation and dialogue as the only means of doing so and of lessening its humanitarian effects.
Notably, the United States and the Russian Federation were able to exchange two prisoners successfully in December 2022, and since the beginning of this year, the UAE’s mediation efforts have been successful in completing war captive exchanges between Russia and Ukraine.
