Alexandria and Sharjah will Digitise Arab Heritage

Under the direction of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, the Sharjah Institute for Heritage has conducted a number of meetings with Egyptian academic and scientific institutions to discuss potential collaboration, share knowledge, and create cooperative projects in the areas of publishing, digitisation, cultural heritage documentation, and library development.

A delegation led by Dr. Abdulaziz Al Musallam, Chairman of the Sharjah Institute for property, represented the institute in its endeavours to improve scientific and academic collaborations and promote the preservation, conservation, and accessibility of cultural property. While there, Dr. Al Musallam met the director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Professor Ahmed Zayed.

The meeting focused on three main areas of cooperation: completing and developing the electronic gateway for the Thesaurus of Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Arab World, enhancing collaborative publishing initiatives, and expanding the Sharjah Institute for Heritage’s libraries.

The talks also looked at how the Bibliotheca Alexandrina’s knowledge management, digitisation, archiving, and use of contemporary technologies to preserve and make knowledge resources accessible could help the institute.
