As Traders Prepare for Tech Results and Central bank Decisions, Stocks Decline

As investors prepared for a pivotal run of central bank decisions and tech reports, Asian markets fell on Monday as the gloomy atmosphere that marred last week’s trade persisted. After both main contracts surged to a six-month high on Friday, a decline in oil prices offered some support, but sentiment remains precarious as concerns grow that US strikes on Iran may resume after next week’s congressional elections. Concerns over the sustainability of the massive investment surge that drove stock markets to many new highs in the first half of the year continued to plague AI-linked businesses.

Rising interest rates and bond yields are raising concerns about corporations’ financial stability, and traders are increasingly worried about when the enormous sums invested in the industry will yield returns, if any. US giants and members of the Magnificent Seven, including Amazon, Microsoft, and Alphabet, as well as South Korean chipmakers SK Hynix and Samsung, will disclose their earnings this week.

Before what could be the most significant portion of the earnings season thus far, the AI complex is still being closely examined, according to Stephen Innes of SPI Asset Management. “This is not one of those quarters where a company can just beat the figure, raise the guidance by a hair and expect acclaim. Microsoft, Alphabet, and Amazon are set to take the stage. Investors now demand evidence. They want to know if the billions invested in the compute buildout are creating a long-lasting revenue generator or merely a more glamorous version of the same old capital expenditure furnace.
