
In a stabbing incident at a high school in Nantes, western France, on Thursday, a 15-year-old boy murdered a classmate. He injured three others before being subdued by instructors, according to authorities. According to BFM TV, the three wounded pupils were males, while the deceased student was a girl. The police did not verify the victims’ gender and age.
Before police came, teaching staff at the private Catholic school Notre-Dame-de-Toutes-Aides restrained the assailant, according to a police spokeswoman. Nothing pointed to a terrorist purpose, she added. Following the incident, students were detained inside the school but were permitted to leave during the day, under police supervision. Outside, dozens more parents were waiting.
Nicolas, a parent at the school, stated, “We’re hoping to be able to embrace them… to help them cope with the stress this will have caused.” The police did not provide a reason for the attack or identify the perpetrator. According to the local newspaper, Ouest-France, the assailant was wearing a balaclava, a helmet, and all-black clothing. According to the report, two knives were discovered near to his possessions.
According to BFM and other media, the alleged attacker used his email account to send a paper to every pupil at the school that presented a negative view of society without mentioning the possibility of an assault. According to Franceinfo, a dispute between students preceded the attack. The police did not immediately verify the media claims.
