In an effort to provide essential medical care to isolated areas, Dutch students celebrated a successful trial of what they claim to be the first solar-powered ambulance in history in Kenya on Friday. The “Stella Juva,” a futuristic yellow, black, and white vehicle, is powered by solar panels mounted on the roof. It also has an ultrasound scanner, X-ray machines, refrigerated vaccine storage, and tuberculosis testing kits.
In areas where there are little medical facilities and maternal health is still in jeopardy, the ambulance’s purpose is to deliver healthcare to patients rather than take them to hospitals.At the Stella Juva solar ambulance inauguration on Friday at the Amref International University in Nairobi, Isabella Wanningen and Yarno Basten examine a Delft Ultra medical imaging X-ray equipment. France-Presse Agency Geoffrey Sadera of Amref Health Africa, a project collaborator, stated, “This car will be a game changer.” Amref concentrates on the health of mothers and children.
The two-seat ambulance has a maximum speed of 120 km/h (70 mph), can handle off-road terrain, and can go about 715 kilometres (440 miles) on a sunny day. Even at nite or in overcast weather, the automobile and its accessories continue to function because to its solar-charged battery.
