On Wednesday, Abu Dhabi commemorated the start of the new year 2026, also known as the “Year of the Family,” with fireworks displays lighting up the city’s sky. A sizable number of locals and citizens gathered to public spaces early to observe the festivities in a happy, family-friendly setting.
Thousands of families attended the New Year’s celebrations, which were held primarily at the Abu Dhabi Corniche, Reem Island, Yas Island, and other locations. They were eager to celebrate with their loved ones, creating a scene that embodied the social values associated with the “Year of the Family.” Before the fireworks displays began, the people gathered to parks, waterfronts, and open areas in the afternoon to find suitable viewing spots.
Taking advantage of the pleasant winter weather, families dispersed across the green spaces and open places along the shoreline, many of them with designated seating areas in advance of the fireworks display. As dusk drew near, the crowds gathered significantly, particularly in areas that had a clear view of the direction of the spectacle.
The fireworks displays started at midnight, filling the Abu Dhabi sky with a beautiful display of light. Families, locals, and guests came together to celebrate the beginning of a new year-themed family as the audience responded with cheers and clapping.
